The Emerald Coast is an unofficial name for the coastal area in the US state of Florida located on the Gulf of Mexico. It stretches about 100 miles through five counties,Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay. That is from Pensacola to Panama City.
The Miracle Strip stretching from Fort Walton Beach to Panama City has been called the "Playground of the Gulf Coast" by local businesses.
It is a popular vacation destinations. Some the areas encompassing Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Navarre Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Watercolor, Panama City Beach, Destin and Seaside.
Deep-sea fishing is a huge draw for the area, with Destin's nickname being "World's Luckiest Fishing Village" and holding several saltwater world records. You can enjoy many seafood restaurants along the coastline as well from wonderful seafood shanties to fine dining.
Many classic movies were filmed here such as The "Truman Show" with Jim Carey from 1996-1997 along with several scenes in 1978 "Jaws 2" filmed on Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach and Navarre Beach areas. With Military bases present in the area, Fort Walton Beach was also chosen to be in a couple of films such as "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" and "Twelve O'clock High", a film about World War II.
